Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, better known by her stage name of Ari Lennox, is an American musician and singer from Washington, D.C., who was the first female to be signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records record label. On the 21st of October, 2016 she dropped Pho, her debut EP on the Dreamville Records label. That was the day she gained her first notoriety. Shea Butter Baby, her debut studio album, debuted on 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox posted her music to the internet in 2012 after she released her five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. She continued to upload her music online in 2014, including the independently-released single Bound. The 21st of July, 2015 was the day she was featured on Omen's album Elephant Eyes in the song Sweat It Out. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew at that time, wanted to have her work on Rihanna reference. The news was released on December 8 that she was signed to Dreamville Records. She made an appearance on the joint album Revenge of the Dreamers II featuring the track Backseat Cozz. On the 21st of October in 2016, the EP Pho debuted. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's track Change and also performed as the opening act on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in 2017. In 2018, she performed as a guest performer on two songs with the EarthGang's Nothing but the Best song and Bas's Icarus. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on the 16th of July in 2018, which was released on July 16th, 2018. A music video was later released in September. The 9th of November saw her release two more singles called 40 Shades of Choke and Grampa. Two more singles were released by her on November 13 Pedigree and No One. They then teamed up as a guest on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on a track entitled Shea Butter Baby on November 16, and it was released as a single on the 26th of February, 2019, for her debut album of the same title. The track was accompanied by the music video which debuted in February 20th, 2019, and it surpassed the milestone of 3 million views on YouTube in its first seven days. The singer was a supporting artist for 6LACK during their From East Atlanta With Love Tour in December of 2018.
